The Co-op compostable carrier rolls-out nationwide

In 2014 The Co-op was the first supermarket to offer customers the option of taking away a dual-use compostable carrier bag rather than a plastic one. The GCS Green Carrier bag is based on their original design and our bag is basically identical to theirs.

Today The Co-op announced that in around 1,400 stores across England, Scotland and Wales they are removing single-use plastic carrier bags from sale completely and replacing them with their dual-use compostable carrrier.

The change will start in towns cities and villages where the bags are accepted in council food waste collections, but this is the start of a phased rollout to all 2,600 Co-op stores.

The change will ultimately remove an estimated 60m plastic single-use carrier bags from circulation.
